Aboyne Highland Games

Description: The Aboyne Highland Games is one of the most prestigious games in Scotland, and has been held on the green at Aboyne, by our chief’s castle, for over 150 years. Witness the spectacle of the massed pipe bands, heavy athletics and highland dancing, and the pageantry of the raising of the Chief’s standard!

We’ll be hosting a clan tent by the arena, where you can come and meet other Gordons, and find out a bit more about the history of the family!

Old Torry: the Lost Villages (Mini Tour)

Description: A mini-tour set in Torry covering almost eight centuries of history in one hour!

Short section from the full-length Torry tour, starting at old St Fittick’s Kirk which was built in the 13th century, and following a direct line over the Balnagask Motte, down Baxter Street and into the site of the Victorian fisher village.  Includes tales of the Davidsons, last lairds of Torry; the Dee Ferry Disaster and the medieval fisher village of Lower Torry which disappeared in 1876 due to harbour developments.

Rosemount Mini Ramble

Description: A mini-tour of Rosemount focusing on the hidden treasures around Gilcomston School/ Jack’s Brae.

Developed from the full length Rosemount Ramble, focusing on the hidden gem of Mackie Place, the 18th century cul-de-sac owned by hide-skinner, Robert Mackie, who commissioned the distinctive ogee-shaped “White House” and the remaining tenement of no’s 4-5, and Jack’s Brae, where there were industries galore, including Strachan’s Mill, Paterson’s Tannery and later the North of Scotland Bedding Company.  There’s the story of St John’s Well, the main fresh water source for the inhabitants of Jack’s Brae and Hardweird; George Dickie, the owner of Cherryvale, a long-lost mansion, who tried to block the owners of the White House/Galleries from overlooking his garden.  Three hundred years of history in 60min!

Turriff Show 2019

Description: Turriff Show, which attracts around 30,000 visitors annually, is set to open its gates once again on Sunday 4 and Monday 5 August 2019.  Now in its 155th year, Turriff Show is the biggest two-day agricultural show in Scotland with over £88,000 worth of prize money and 1,553 classes varying from cattle to pigeons and young farmers stock judging to companion dog shows.

Alongside the return of the popular livestock events, the highlight of the ringside entertainment will once again be the Heavy Horse Turnout Display.

Please can children take a painting apron (or a large t-shirt) together with a drink.  Also, in The Sanctuary there is a no shoe policy to protect the space so feel free to bring cosy socks or slippers if you wish.

GIN, of course, we will have GIN!!! This year we will be supporting a 100% distilled and bottled range of Scottish Gins. New this year a craft gin shop!!

CIDER from our trusty friends at Thistly Cross Cider and some new ciders never been seen in the area before!

And finally, we’ll have Prosecco! Because who doesn’t love it?!?!?

FAMILY FRIENDLY SUNDAY. Nightmare when you can’t get a babysitter. well, We’ve thought of this, bring the kids! there will be a large range of FREE kids activities for them to have a blast on!! Bouncy castles!! Face painting (extra) and lots more!
