Illyria: The Tempest

Organiser: Drum Castle, Garden & Estate

Where: Drum Castle, Banchory, AB31 5, United Kingdom

 Date:  Wednesday 24th July 2019 Time:  07:00Pm-09:30PM

Description: It’s time for another amazing season of outdoor theatre at Drum! Dust down those folding chairs and waterproofs, and head on down to the South Lawn. Sumptuous refreshments will be available from Drum’s tea tent.

The magician Prospero is marooned on an island with his daughter Miranda. With the assistance of a powerful air spirit he keeps in servitude, he conjures up a storm to shipwreck his enemies on the shore of the island. Inexorably they are driven towards the centre of the island to answer to Prospero – until Prospero learns that in spite of everything Miranda has met and fallen in love with Ferdinand, the son of his enemy. Which is greater – his thirst for revenge or his aptitude for forgiveness?

In their 28th open-air touring season, and renowned all over the world for their clarity, quality and ingenuity, Illyria return to their home-turf: Shakespearean comedy. The play, believed to be the last that Shakespeare wrote single-handedly, is lyrical, thought provoking and raucously funny. More than 400 years after it was written it still has the capacity to surprise!

Illyria is an intrepid band of five actors who perform Shakespeare’s plays, entirely uncut, direct from the First Folio, the most authoritative edition of Shakespeare’s plays. It’s swift, it’s polished and it’s spoken beautifully (uniquely among open-air touring theatre companies Illyria’s artistic director has published articles on verse-speaking) – and scholars on both sides of the Atlantic agree that Illyria’s performance style is the most authentically Elizabethan to be seen. Since 1992 they have performed on what feels like every patch of grass from Land’s End to John O-Groats – and also in Ireland, France, Germany, Holland, Switzerland, USA and Canada. They are the only UK open-air touring company to have won no less than 4 international awards, and have a well-deserved reputation for being, quite simply, the best.

Adults: £15.00

Children (3 – 18): £12.00

Concessions (over 60s / students): £12.00

StrongMamaMoves Parent, Baby and Toddler Exercise Classes

Organiser: Strongmamamoves.Aberdeen

Where: Warehouse Health Club, 20 Mearns Street, AB11 5AT Aberdeen

Date:  Friday 28th June 2019
Time:  11:30AM-02:30PM

Description: StrongMamaMoves Class

Our Friday Class will now adopt the brand name 🥰 because it says exactly what it is!

Fridays at 1130am at Warehouse Health Club

Parent, toddler and baby classes.  It is exercise for you!  Bring your babies along, bring toddlers along and they can play with their toys or they can join in with you

A structured warm up, main workout and cool down and stretch designed for you to become stronger and move better so you are “fit for parenting”

How often are we having to pick things up off the floor while still carrying them or when they throw their toys out of the pram or even picking them up when they are on the move??…

Imagine doing a deadlift (the “scary” one that people worry about doing their back in with) but the weight is a moving, fast, wriggling weight…  That’s parenthood!  But we don’t think about the fact when we pick our little humans up that we ARE deadlifting them, we ARE exercising.. And if we can’t move effectively we can get hurt..

So by doing a class that encourages increasing applied strength, increasing range of motion and fitness levels we are getting fit for parenting 🙂

It’s best to do this class after doing initial rehab work after birth. I have classes to refer for this or can offer PT.. This class is best as your next level up so you can make the most of it

Booking is essential.

StrongMamaMoves Parent, Baby and Toddler exercise class

Organiser: Strongmamamoves.Aberdeen

Where: Warehouse Health Club, 20 Mearns Street, AB11 5AT Aberdeen

Date:  Friday 21st June 2019 Time:  11:30AM-02:30PM

Description: StrongMamaMoves Class

Our Friday Class will now adopt the brand name because it says exactly what it is!

Fridays at 1130am at Warehouse Health Club

Parent, toddler and baby classes.  It is exercise for you!  Bring your babies along, bring toddlers along and they can play with their toys or they can join in with you.

A structured warm up, main workout and cool down and stretch designed for you to become stronger and move better so you are “fit for parenting”

How often are we having to pick things up off the floor while still carrying them or when they throw their toys out of the pram or even picking them up when they are on the move??…

Imagine doing a deadlift (the scary one that people worry about doing their back in with) but the weight is a moving, fast, wriggling weight…  That’s parenthood!  But we don’t think about the fact when we pick our little humans up that we ARE deadlifting them, we ARE exercising… And if we can’t move effectively we can get hurt..

David tells stories in a prose style, so we advise that children from 10 on should be able to keep up, but younger children would struggle.

Moonpig, adding the Personal Touch to Fathers Day

Moonpig, adding the Personal Touch to Fathers Day

** AD – Guest | I was kindly invited along to this blogger event by Moonpig, as always all views are my own **

Last month I headed down to the Cannonball Restaurant & Bar on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, up beside Edinburgh Castle, for an afternoon with Moonpig.

The afternoon kicked off with a glass of prosecco and a welcome presentation from Moonpig. From Moonpigs experience, Fathers Day cards are now moving away from the traditional humorous card towards more sentimental cards.

The theme of the day was also about spending time with your dad/father figure providing ideas of things you could do together.

Food Masterclass with Andy from Contini Cannonball

First up for my group was the food masterclass with Andy from Contini Cannonball.

We learned about how to open oysters, what to look for to see how fresh the oysters were and also about the scollops they use in the restaurant, which are fresh ethically sourced scollops from the Isle of Mull.

Next up was the cheeseboard, all of which were Scottish cheeses. Andy explained how they like to support local produce and spoke of the wide range of suppliers they use from around Scotland in the restaurant.

Creating our Personalised Father’s Day Cards

After lunch we headed off to created our own personalised Fathers’ Day cards.

Firstly we picked our background from a big selection of images on the board before having our photo taken against the green screen to be used in our card images.

As someone who prefers being behind the camera rather than in front, I opted for one of the car images – I mean who wouldn’t want to pretend they have had a shot of a red Ferrari!?

We then used these images to created our personalised Father’s Day card – which arrived a few days latter in the post.

As someone who’s used Moonpig for a number of years, I find their website super handy for creating personalised cards which you can then send straight to the recipient, or to yourself if you want to give it to them personally.

There is also a handy little tool where you can add reminders for things such as birthdays, anniversaries etc.

Gin Masterclass with Michael from Edinburgh Gin

Cards complete, it was time for a cocktail masterclass with Michael from Edinburgh Gin. After being shown how to make a rhubarb and ginger highball with their new Rhubarb & Ginger gin it was our turn to have a go at cocktail making.

This cocktail was delicious and may have converted me to trying more gins!

Next up was a Negroni, which had such a strong kick to it! The traditional Negroni was made with equal 25ml measures of Edinburgh Gin, Campari and Sweet Vermouth.

Thanks to Moonpig!

Thanks to Moonpig for having me along to the event and also for the hamper! (Safe to say S ran off with the shortbread!) It was also lovely to meet some more Scottish bloggers and their guests.

You can find all kinds of card and gift ideas over on Moonpig, there is plenty to choose from for any occasion and I highly recommend checking them out!
