Description: Did you know that Aberdeen is one of the best places in Europe to see bottlenose dolphins?

RSPB Scotland staff and volunteers will be at Torry Battery every Thursday – Sunday, from 11am – 6pm until 20 August to help you to witness the dolphins spectacular displays and learn more about Aberdeen’s amazing coastal wildlife!

The Dolphinwatch team will provide information, binoculars and various drop-in activities for families. Keep an eye out for special additional events such as guided walks, rockpool rambles and beach cleans.

Description: Silver City Stories is a collection of events throughout the city which aims to showcase, celebrate and debate the history and heritage of Aberdeen and its people.

Aberdeen Science Centre will celebrate the History, Heritage and Archaeology of Aberdeen with a free activity packed open weekend.

This weekend will include:

– Bjarni Thorvaldrson, Viking warrior, who will explain the physics of viking weaponary (1st & 2nd only).

– Medieval writing and digging for artifacts with Archaeology Scotland.

– Bridge building and create your own Harper Suspension bridge (1st & 2nd only)

and much more!

Throughout the 1st and 2nd as well as various dates throughout July visitors will be able to book and take part in Minecraft workshops – using Minecraft to recreate the history of the Tramsheds building where Aberdeen Science Centre now stands. from swimming baths to tram sheds to science centre. Minecraft Workshop: Crafting the Past – Dig it! 2017

Description: BOOKING REQUIRED – see below for details

This workshop is recommended for children aged 6+ and will run for 1 hour. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Children are required to bring their own laptop with Minecraft installed.

Participants will receive a Minecraft world with Aberdeen Science Centre built at a 1:1 scale. Both inside, in the garden and local to the centre, geo caches will be placed and by exploring the Minecraft Building. The participants will then go out into the real world and find their geo cache. Each one will have a prize element.

The workshop will run on the 1st and 2nd July during our Silver City Stories weekend.

Pre booking is essential for this workshop and will cost £4.50/child and £5.75/adult, this includes entry to the centre before and after the session.

Description: Following the outstanding success of SpeedFest 2016, with its record number of visitors, we are pleased to announce that SpeedFest will be returning to the Grampian Transport Museum on Sunday July 2nd 2017.

2016 saw more than 6000 people travel to Alford to see over 100 specially invited performance cars from the earliest days of motoring to the present day. Entrants came from all over Scotland, England, the Isle of Man and even Germany.

We are building on the success of this year’s event to deliver a bumper event for SpeedFest 2017 and we are already in the process of inviting some key entries and traders as well as identifying some key themes for the event!

BP Big Screen – La Traviata

Join us for free opera on the big screen at Duthie Park broadcast live via satellite from the Royal Opera House in London’s Covent Garden. Suitable for families but please be aware that the opera will be sung in Italian with English subtitles.

La Traviata is Giuseppe Verdi’s tragic tale of love and loss. ‘A toast to the pleasures of life!’ – so sings Violetta, her new admirer Alfredo and her party guests in the opening scene. But beneath the surface glamour of Violetta’s Parisian life run darker undercurrents: her doomed love for Alfredo and the tensions the lovers encounter when they break society’s conventions.

Bring a picnic, picnic rug or deck chairs, make yourself comfortable and enjoy the night. Glassware, cans, barbecues or naked flames are not allowed. A selection of hot and cold soft drinks will be available to purchase.

The year is 1885 and the building of new factories and housing in the area has thrown up a problem – where will everyone wash!? Bring in the Aberdeen Swimming Bath company. Using social history, newspaper clippings and material from the city archives, the challenge is to build a swimming baths for this site.

Pre booking is essential for this workshop and will cost £4.50/child and £5.75/adult, this includes entry to the centre before and after the session.

Description: Our Belwade Experience Summer fun days are a great way to spend a day or two in the holidays with family and friends. Today we are offering visitors the opportunity to tour the farm and meet our current Belwade residents. After the tour you get to meet Digger our gentle giant and give him and one of his friends a groom.

We then break for lunch where you can enjoy some delicious food in the Bistro. If you would like to book a table please ask when making your experience booking.

The afternoon will be spent in our indoor school where we will be doing horseless horse games. This promises to be a fun filled afternoon, participants will have a lot of fun having a go at our horseless games and other horseless fun activities.

While you are here why not go or one of our farm trails and take in the beautiful scenery across Deeside, you will be able to see the horses grazing in the fields as you go and you might even be lucky enough to spot some of our wildlife on the farm. Farm quizzes and bug hunt sheets are available from your tour guide. Our magical woodland is now open for the summer and if you have not already visited it is certainly worth a look. Remember to beware of the trolls lurking in the undergrowth.

Where: Fowlsheugh Nature Reserve, Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire

 Date:  Thursday 6th July 2017
Time:  19:00 – 20:30

Description: Join us on an evening cliff-top ramble to take in the sights, sounds (and smells!) of the springtime seabird colony at RSPB Fowlsheugh! (Follow signs for Crawton from the A92 south of Stonehaven)

Around 60,000 guillemots, razorbills, kittiwakes and other seabirds are back on the cliffs for a busy breeding season, and we can (almost) guarantee we’ll see a puffin or two as well!

Care is required on the cliff top – this event may not be suitable for small children.

Booking is essential as places are very limited – please call us on 01346 532017 or email Strathbeg@rspb.org.uk . (To help our volunteer leaders’ planning, you will also need to confirm your booking by phone or email on the day before the walk takes place.)
If you have binoculars, please bring them along!

Meet at the reserve entrance at 6.50 pm for a 7.00 pm start. Please park thoughtfully and do not use the passing places along the road. Road works on the A90 at Stonehaven are causing delays – please give plenty time to travel.
